The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its support behind the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement led by Nyesom Wike, aimed at securing President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027, according to Premium Times Nigeria. The party also stated that governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have underperformed in their respective states.
Wike, who currently serves in Tinubu's administration, confirmed his backing for the president's 2027 campaign but indicated that the PDP would still field candidates in other elections, Channels TV reported. He noted that Tinubu is aware of the Rainbow Coalition's activities, TheCable reported.
The former Rivers State governor has been openly critical of APC governors, describing them as politically lazy despite being "smart like fraudsters," according to Sahara Reporters. Punch Newspapers reported a clash between Wike and APC governors over the Rainbow Coalition, signaling internal tensions within the ruling party's ranks.
